Why your website needs good quality content.

First, I would like to try and explain why quality content is vital to any website, also why is is imperative that your content is geared for the visitor, not the search engines, and hopefully after understanding why, you will give the subject its due diligence.

Search engines are not "intelligent", they cannot understand what a sentence says, or watch a video and know what the video was about, they can only analyze & prioritize the terms, therefore they don't have the capability to grade the "quality" of the content on a web page, at least not without some outside human help.

So then, who decides what is bad or good content. Well, it is the people who visit the site; they will ultimately decide the overall quality of the site based on how useful or entertaining that site was to them.

Users know good content when they see it and if they left your site feeling like they have gained something, then they will want to tell other users about your site. What they say about your site plays a key role in how the search engines will determine the "quality" of any given website.

UPDATE: In Feb. 2011, Google announced that it had made a major update to its search algorithm, aimed at reducing content abuse coming in from "content farm" websites. This update will affect about 12% of all sites and indicates that Google is putting more emphasis than ever on the quality of websites, and they will penalize sites that offer low quality content.

Therefore, it is more important than ever that your website contains unique, useful, information-rich content, and the pages clearly and accurately describe your content.

Pointers on how to create good useful content.

Most of the time when we think of content we normally assume it's all about the written form, but website content includes everything you have on your web page including, images, videos, audio, text or any other interesting or entertaining resource.

Quality content is something that your visitors will enjoy reading about, watching or listening to, it also is what will make or break a website.

Creating quality content is really not that easy, it takes effort, a lot of effort, especially for commercial websites that are selling products. You have to set yourself apart from the rest.

Here are a few things to consider before you add any form of content to your website,

• How useful is this content to the user?

Does it provide the best & most accurate information available? Have you done a thorough job of researching the content? If someone else already has the same content, and there most likely will be, then what can you add of value that they have missed.

• How appealing is the content?

Clean looking animations, images & video, pleasant colors, and a logical & organized presentation of the content will all help to increase the attractiveness of your website.

• How quickly can they find the content they are looking for?

Content isn't useful unless visitors can find it, plan on the reality that your site was not first they have visited and that they are already comparing your content to what they have come across, and are also ready to form an opinion, they need to be able to quickly & easily access the content.
